How To Brick A Mac Mini

  1. Take a Mac Mini M1 2020.
  2. Install Asahi Linux, then eventually remove said OS when you realise Dropbox will never produce an aarch4 version of their app.
  3. Try to then update macOS to Sequoia.
  4. Get frustrated when receiving the message "failed to personalise software update".
  5. Take increasingly drastic steps to force the update to work.
  6. Marvel at the £500 aluminium door stop with a single orange LED flashing S.O.S. in morse code.
  7. Try, and fail, to jump start the Mac Mini from your MacBook Pro using Apple Configurator and a USB-C lead.
  8. Bring the bricked Mac Mini to your local Mac repair shop, and pay them £60 to take it and diagnose whether it is fixable.
  9. Come home and spend some time in seclusion, absolution and prayer, awaiting the outcome.

Update

  1. Decide that rather than replacing the main board, the cash may as well go towards a new Mac Mini M2 Pro.
